TikTok Is To Start Collecting Biometric Data From Users In US

One of the most famous video sharing platform TikTok has altered its privacy policy, and its new policy allowing the company to collect biometric data from US based users.

So, the TikTok app will enable a function on its app to collect biomtric identifiers like faceprints or voiceprints.

This newly added function were introduced in a newly added section under “Information we collect automatically area” which lists all kinds of data TikTok gathers from its customers.

In an analysis, experts have found the new terms into two sections, where the first one notes modifications which will probably help TikTok’s ad targeting and augmented reality efforts, while the second part deals with the collection of biometric information.

In the troubling section, it reads as, “We may collect biometric identifiers and biometric information as defined under US laws, such as faceprints and voiceprints, from your User Content. Where required by law, we will seek any required permissions from you prior to any such collection.”

However, according to reports, majority of Us states don’t have biometrick privacy laws, and this will barring a handful of users. Means, the above mentioned statement seems concerning because it doesn’t specify if the platform will adhere federal law, state law or both.
